Ford has launched smartwatch application named “MyFord Mobile application” for its electric and hybrid vehicles (Focus Electric, C-MAX Energi and Fusion Energi).

Newly created app can show mileage summary, a current state of charge and fuel level, find nearby charging stations, use remote vehicle controls and do other cool things.

Cool, isn’t it?

Let’s figure out more.

*Application both available on Android and Apple and is absolutely free to download.

MyFord Mobile application

 DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 16, 2015 –Ford unveiled its MyFord Mobile application for both Apple Watch and Android Wear Thursday, which allows owners of electric or plug-in hybrid models -- C-MAX Energi, Ford Focus Electric and Ford Fusion Energi -- access a suite of data from their wrists.

Here’s full list of smartwatch application features:

 - Range and charge status for battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles;

 - Capability to initiate preconditioning of vehicle cabin remotely;

 - Locking/unlocking capability;

 - Vehicle mileage summary;

 - Last trip summary includes personal driving score, percentage of electric vehicle miles;

 - Vehicle location provides walking or driving directions back to your parked car.

Looks quite promising, isn’t it?

Well, that’s not all.

The drivers can also monitor their driving score – showing miles per gallon or miles per gallon equivalent, trip miles, and braking and driving efficiency.

The graphic shows more green leaves the more efficient you drive.

A few words from David Hatton, Ford manager, Connected Vehicles and Services

“The app gives drivers the ability to quickly check important data like available range before leaving on a journey – without having to access the mobile application on their smartphone” - said David Hatton, Ford manager, Connected Vehicles and Services.

“The app can also notify users when their car is fully charged, helping a driver be courteous to other electric vehicle owners so they can free up the charging spot or avoid fees applied at some charging stations when you overrun your time after the charge is complete.”

Designed for smartwatch displays

The watch apps were specifically developed for easy use and to fit smartwatch displays.

For example, rounded gauges used match the look of round watch faces like that of the new Moto 360. If desired, using Apple Watch, the user can access the glance feature to simply swipe up on the watch interface to quickly fire up the app.

This solution was developed to complement the MyFord Mobile platform for Android and Apple smartphones.

Even though the all-new application has a lot of bugs, it fits into the new tech-centric mission. Beyond offering convenience and gamifying the driving experience - last trip summaries include scores based on how much a hybrid was driven in electric-only mode - the at-a-glance nature of the app could even promote civility.

The app definitely worth trying and if you owe Focus Electric, C-MAX Energi or Fusion Energi – give this application a shot right now.
