Great news for people that live in Germany: supermarket chain Aldi promised to install 50 free fast charging points for electric vehicles outside its stores.

As the company says, such move has been taken in order to improve environmental situation in Germany.

A few words about charging points

The energy is produced by solar photovoltaic systems on the store roof and delivered directly to the car park below for free.

Additionally, charging stations provided by the technology partner and supplier RWE, offer an innovative quick-charge technology: cutting-edge DC models allow you to charge your vehicle in less than half of an hour.

“Charging has to be easy. And with ALDI SÜD’s commitment, it has become a bit faster and also more convenient” - says Dr Arndt Neuhaus, CEO of RWE AG Germany.

Available for all

Unlike Tesla superchargers, Aldi fast charging stations have all the current access plugs: the Combined Charging System (CCS) standard, Chademo and the Type 2 connector.

So, yes, there is no catch – you even don’t have to buy something in the supermarket to get your beloved vehicle charged.

Already in use

The company has already installed a few quick charging stations in Düsseldorf.

Here’s what local inhabitant of the city said on that:”doing my shopping while quickly recharging the electric car is really a cool thing”.

Well, totally agree on that.

Let’s wish Aldi good luck and hope that we will see more “superchargers” within nearest future.

RWE operates more than 4,000 charging points throughout Europe. The charging stations at ALDI SÜD will drive the expansion of the current quick charging technology further forward.
